Good stuff
it really doesn't get old.

kinda like the endy grab or the coup de boule.

The Endy grab is a melancholy thing for me.
I live IT, but there are a bunch of missed opportunity-type memories associated with it, so it's hard for me to think of it in isolation.

I LOVED it, I meant to say.

Yup
Definitely bittersweet, especially having been there. Since I've never watched any of that game on video I can watch replays of "The Catch" in something of a vacuum; most fans can't do the same.

I thought the series was ours after that.
It was just another notch up the roller coaster before Le Grande Crashola.  The last one, really.

I have to say that the Giants are dong a fine job
of raising and then bashing down my hopes for them this season as well.  Before the season started I thought they had Super dreams.  I still look at them and feel like they have the talent to win the NFC, but then they just keep disappointing me over and over and over.

/ football rant

fire Coughlin
The team is out of control.  The talent is there, they just have no focus and they are so inconsistent.  I really think the coach does not have the respect of the players.  Contrast the Jints with their Meadowlands counterparts in that regard, and you'll see what I mean.

Gigantes
what are you doing fighting with the mean green fans on JetsGeek when you know you can start Giants diaries over here?

Trying to bridge the divide
This site is like one of Saddam's palaces, next to the Geek, yet the Geek is where all the cool kids go to make out and smoke cigarettes and stuff, apparently.

hard to get a Mets word in edgewise
what with all the inside jokes and the off topic stuff. Amazin (pun intended) that they can get 1500 posts a day and Goldy's cogent post on Zito has just two comments.

I do lurk on the Geek for the warmth of familiar company and the brief outbursts of Mets-related chatter, but I'm not making out with anybody and I'm definitely not drinking any Merlot.

You should jump on in there, pj
As far as I can tell, they've never experienced your level of snark.

You can always come over here too. I don't think AA has to take a back seat to the Geek, it's just busier over there in the off-season.

Oh, I've dunked my toes in
once or twice and the water feels ok, but I prefer the small pond.

I think part of it is the threaded format over here.  Nothing worse than seeing a good comment go unappreciated after the 100th post on a particular page.

foot traffic is certainly a problem over here, but ES is trying to drum up business with his UTUBE fights.

Eric is a Giants fan (IIRC), so I am sure he will support the uncommon intersection of Shockey Street and Amazin Avenue.

I'll be in NY for the next two games, but WHEN the  Giants make the playoffs I'll start game chats in the diary under the heading Free'd Eli Man

Yeah - as long as the electricity holds out
we'll be ok. I need to get out there and start shovelling in a while.  We've got 22" on the ground where I am and it's supposed to keep snowing for at least another couple of hours.

People here are pretty good-natured about this kind of situation - we get storms like this once every 3 or 4 years.

Lift with your legs, not with your back. snow shoveling is a bitch.

I went through Ft Collins after the last big snowfall. March 2003? The place was wrecked.

HH KC and Mr Met
I've been in the lab all afternoon, but I didn't want to miss the fun. I am a little delirious right now.

11 hour car ride to NYC tomorrow. Damn, I haven't been to the city since last Xmas.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
