Source: mlb.com

The Red Legs roll into town with their ace on the hill. The Mets counter with El Duque and an offense that seems to struggle a bit at home.

Phils play the Yanks
I know I should root for the Yanks, but I find that while my head understands, as the Sports Guy would say, my body rejects rooting for them like a bad liver transplant.

anything that makes yankee fans happy
must be wrong.

I just root for the players on my fantasy baseball team.

if it were the last game of the season
and the Phillies were a game ahead of the Mets for the division lead, then maybe I could bring myself to do it.  But in other circumstances, I root for the Mets first, and second for whoever is playing the Yankees and the Braves.

me
i'm rooting for them these week. And when they play the Braves. 6-90 for the rest of the season still would make me happy man.
its a ground ball...trickling... its a fair ball, its by Buckner, rounding third Knight, the Mets will win the ballgame, the Mets win

Get Over It, people!
First of all, when the Phils (or Braves) lose a game it's good for the Mets, no matter who gets the win.  And, second, Simmons can shove it - he's Page2's version of Anne Coulter, and should be treated as such.

Bill Simmons = Anne Coulter
why such disdain?

I think his articles are good for laughs, but...
...I don't take him seriously.  Also, I can't stand Red Sox fans - even more than I can't stand die-hard Yankee fans - they are miserable bastards, and get boring with their non-stop hatred of New York.

Jeez, sorry to hit a sore spot
don't take it out on the dog or anything.

No worries, Art. My dog is gonna be OK.
I grew up surrounded by dang Red Sox and Yankee fans.  After all that, and some recent experience, I simply prefer Yankee fans to Sox fans.

I get to watch tonight!
An advantage to living in SW OH.....

I'll have to put up with the reds-biased announcers, but I've never noticed them to be as bad as the TBS crew.

Yeah.
According to the radio, Hernandez dove to catch it, and layed the tag on himself.  Oh boy!

Suicide Squeeze
Hey, do any of you people think Willie would try a squeeze this year?

On Saturday night, in the second inning, Pedro bunted Endy to third.  With one out, Jose was up, and I thought it would be a decent time to try a squeeze.  Now, in the second there is no need to squeeze,  but I think it would be cool if Willie tried it at least once - just to send a message to the other managers in the league.

most managers only do it
with a pitcher anyway cause so much can go wrong. We'll see one at one point I think.

ElDuque
Has started a few games well for us, but seems to start having problems in the fifth and sixth. Let's hope he can hold it together.

Hello
Arroyo is one of those guys who I can never figure out why he gets outs.

by Art Vandaley on Jun 19, 2006 9:42 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

he has
a horrible fastball, but his control, always solid, has improved a lot, and his curve is actually pretty sweet.  he was also throwing some nice sliders yesterday.  it's all about location with him, and, this year, he's had it more often than not.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
