Roger Clemens is apparently on the list, or so says a former trainer of his and Andy Pettitte's.

Of course it means Giambi and Clemens, but who else? Abreu? Damon? Could Sheffield be considered a prominent Yankee since he was with them from 2004-2006?

BTW, how rich would it be if Jeter was on the list? My commute home would involve dodging the bodies of Yankees fans throwing themselves off of buildings. ;-)

I'm hoping it's true that no current Mets are on the list.

Tim Dierkes indicated that Jetes and Rivera were not on the report, but who knows?

In all honesty, there isn't a name that could surface on any team that would totally surprise me. The estimates that 50% of the league took or is taking PEDs seem pretty reasonable to me.

he admitted to unknowningly taking

steroids during his Grand Jury testimony. He had immunity, like Bonds and wasn't going to be charged with anything, but it did come out he took them.

Why do you think Bonds had immunity?

I don't think so; otherwise how could he be prosecuted now? Also, there would have been no reason for his trainer to sit in jail all those months.

Bonds did have immunity

From the original steroid use, and still has it, he can't be charged with it now and hasn't been. He is alleged lied about them anyway, that's why he being charged now.

Most of those names are not surprising, but he does pop out. Varitek also sticks out as very unexpected, and ripe for serious controversy.

that's the list I've seen too

My thoughts:

I breathe a huge sigh of relief that none of the current Mets are on the list, and Piazza isn't either.

I'm also glad in a way that the Jones boys, Teixeira, Smoltz, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins and (last but DEFINITELY not least) Pat Burrell aren't on the list. I respect them all as adversaries and was hoping they were all clean.

A-Rod isn't on the list but God fearin' True Yankee Andy Pettitte is. I have to chuckle at that considering that Pettitte is worshipped by Yankee fans almost as much as Jeter is.

Pujols is not named in the report. I just searched it.

None of the Phillies you name above is on it, either.

Of course, not being in the report does not mean everything, since there likely are many, many guys who used but who are not named.

Problem

This list contradicts earlier reports that no current Mets appear in the Mitchell Report. Ramon Castro's and Scott Schoeneweis's (mis-spelled "Schoenweiis") names imply some fishiness.

I am not sure about Castro but how can Schoenweiis not be in the Mitchell report when he is on the Albany DAs list?

A quick search of the report for a handful of names on this list reveals that this list is highly inaccurate (not that I ever claimed that it was correct--I was just posting what was out there).

Up here in Boston

Sports radio guys (normally as homer-ific as they get) were making the good point that Mitchell's connection to, and apparent fan-ship of, the Red Sox could create some serious controversies if several Yankees are named and no - or at least very non-prominent - Red Sox make the list.

I think that's a valid point... one which whiny Yankee fans will take way beyond its logical lengths, however.

Mitchell Was Once a Fed Judge

He actually has a pretty strong record of serving in positions requiring impartiality. He served for a number of years as a federal judge and was one of the lead negotiators on Northern Ireland peace accords. I think someone of this stature should be able to put aside his personal views to do his job.

The guy had one phenomenal year and had an insane temper. Thank God he's gone.

Somehow, I imagine people will still trash Paul DePodesta for that trade that looks better and better every day (from the Dodgers point of view).

Shame on MLB

Bill Stoneman, who retired in 2007 as the general manager of the Los Angeles Angels, had a similar recollection of a presentation by Drs. Millman and Solomon. He remembered wondering at the time why Major League Baseball had permitted the presentation, which to his recollection included the assertion that there was no evidence that anabolic steroids were bad for you. He said that the baseball executives in attendance were universally frustrated with the message of leniency that was being conveyed.

Shame on the Front Offices

Here's one example, of the Dodgers front offices talking about trading LoDuca because he was off the roids.

Steroids aren't being used anymore on him. Big part of this. Might have some value to trade . . . Florida might have interest.. . . Got off the steroids . . . Took away a lot of hard line drives. . . . Can get comparable value back would consider trading. . . . If you do trade him, will get back on the stuff and try to show you he can have a good year. That's his makeup. Comes to play. Last year of contract, playing for 05.

I just wonder why

Generally speaking, I think Mitchell is a fair and gutty guy. He exposes some scandals that stars would not like to face or let all nation's folks know. It's valuable to disclose the truth. But many of us target whose name are listed on the report. And it seems that no body be curious to the reason why he do so. I just wonder why.
