They can not play him on a day-to-day basis while evaluating, but w/o replacing the roster spot.
Then if the injury turns out to be bad, they can put him on the DL, but backdate the injury time to the day after the last day he played.
The benefit is that you don't lose your star for two weeks over a sore tummy, but sometimes you get burned and have to use a 45 yo pitcher to pinch run.
Since Willie passed up two opportunities to use Beltran with the game on the line, they might end up doing DLing him. Using him tonight would keep him out another 4 games on the future end of the DL period.
That was still an outrageous move by Willie wasting Anderson like that. Wtf?
