I go with George Thomas Seaver
for the poll

Poll
Robin Roberts. Felt like keepin' it in the Phillies family.

Also, boo to mlbtv, yesterday got the Mets announcers but today the Phillies announcers? They are the most emotionless, boring announcers to listen to in my opinion. Does mlb.tv just pick which announcing team to go with at random? Or do they have some sort of system that I'm unaware of?

usally the home teams feed
unless some technical limitation prevents it

Thanks
Yeah I suppose that would make sense. Maybe my memory is off though, but I could swear that it doesn't always work out that way, seems more like a 75-25 thing to me when it comes to using the home teams announcers.

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 7:13 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

that one announcer
sounds like the guy from NLF films to me

by kendynamo on Aug 28, 2007 8:03 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It's really
the older guy (sounds older anyway, the guy with the deep voice) that gets to me. The only way you know he's excited is that he raises his voice and speaks more slowly.

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 8:17 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think
It's Harry Kalas

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 8:19 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Pretty impressive career
he's had. Guess I'm among the minority who isn't into him. He does know his stuff and reports the facts well. He's just a bit too monotone for me I guess. I suppose I'm nitpicking

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 9:25 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And as I type that
he gets excited about a HR haha. I've had a bad streak the last few nights

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 9:28 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yeah its Harry Kalas
Who is also the voice of NFL films.

Good to see Carlos rip one out
Even though he always hits here, and that was an absolute cookie from Eaton.

Sure
I go out to get some food and miss some actual production from Delgado. I heard from the Twins announcers when they were doing their "around the majors" type spiel that he crushed it though.

Ha
Nice try Jose

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 8:22 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

no way, Jose
Nice try, though, Reyes dropping the ball to try to get the DP there.  That shows a little more situational awareness than I thought Reyes had.

rub some dirt on it
he looks ok.  lets hope he is.

Damn - Carlos missed it by thaaaaat much.

I thought Delgado had that one
Just missed it...but that was a pretty bad AB, otherwise. He swung at ball four on three straight pitches after he got the count to 3-0.

so nice
to have endy making that play and not green.

no HRs
and solid D will win this game

by kendynamo on Aug 28, 2007 8:56 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

PH for Glavine?
he only has 87 pitches and also 20% of the mets hit total today

by kendynamo on Aug 28, 2007 8:58 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Phew!
Pretty scary there

Nice throw by PLD to set it up.

That just sucks

Momentum
shifting. WTF is next?

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 9:40 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This is why
you can't take a 2-0 lead in the first couple of innings and sit back and say, "Well, we've got a lead and our pitcher is cruising. Good job, guys." You need to keep adding on to your lead and getting runners home.

My sentiments
also.

Lookin good so far
Please just one more Mota? Pretty please?

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 10:01 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sure did
one reason why he's so irritating, he's got good enough stuff with or without steroids it seems, just has these inexplicable meltdowns. Good job this time though.

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 10:07 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

willie's letting it ride
I hope he's got another inning in him.

what the hell
happened to the offense

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 10:16 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Howard
Also has pretty incredible HR totals.

by JasonB on Aug 28, 2007 10:20 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yep
unfortunately

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 10:22 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Indeed
Why is Mota on a major league team?

by DavidNYC on Aug 28, 2007 10:17 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

because we gave him a 2 year deal
and most of it is backloaded to reward him for his cheating.

Boo to that
Just depressing

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 10:17 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not exactly
surprised though. not a bit

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 10:18 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

that's how it goes
Can't say I'm surprised. The Mets have got to HIT the ball already!

by citimetro on Aug 28, 2007 10:18 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As easy as it would be
to get on Mota for that, he did pitch a good inning prior and the Mets offense didn't do shit outside of that HR. Again, not surprising to anyone though, just annoying.

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 10:21 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sigh
guess we'll try it again tomorrow. Playing in this place is like the twilight zone. Bad shit just seems to happen.

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 28, 2007 10:24 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As much as I'm hating Mota
5 hits in 5 innings off a pitcher with an ERA over 6.
Glavine had 2 of them.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
