Open Thread - Game 132: Mets vs. Phillies (08/29/2007) on SNY

Source: mlb.com

Tale of the tape:

Perez Moyer
ERA 3.34 5.16
FIP 4.24 4.95
K/9 8.64 5.73
BB/9 3.72 2.89
K/BB 2.32 1.98
HR/9 1.14 1.36
WHIP 1.26 1.44
GB/FB 0.67 0.95
BABIP .280 .306
eBABIP .293 .322

Que se dillio:

So the last two games have been unmitigated disasters. Really, if the Mets can just grab one of the next two they'll end the series in pretty good shape, at least four games up on both the Phils and the Braves.

I've got
a good feeling about this game.

Nothing like facing a 21 year veteran to get your bidness back on track.

Good evening people
Nice, just turn on the game and they tie it. I'd really like to see the Mets just embarass the shit out of Moyer. But 4th inning, woulda hoped they'd done it by know though

Plenty of time left
though, i suppose

C'mon Milo
The kid has enough Ks for the month. He don't need any more.

Way to get the pitcher's spot around.

They's just getting started!

Moyer
Is that his age on the back of his jersey?

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 29, 2007 8:16 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What??
Milledge is cocky?? Uh oh, thanks Phillies announcers for the info, I guess the Mets should dump him.

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 29, 2007 8:19 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

didn't you hear?
He high-fived some fans after his first HR. Baseball can do without guys like that.

by citimetro on Aug 29, 2007 8:21 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No way!
What a jerk, trying to give his fans a little thrill, he really should be respecting the opposing team more than the fans. By the way, isn't Rollins considered to be a bit cocky himself? I like Rollins as a player, it's fun to root against him but these extroverted guys make watching the games more exciting in my opinion.

i hope Milledge
shows how mature he is by smashing Burrell's face into smithereens.

Ow
You can't walk the old-timer like that. It will come back to haunt you.

Although he might get tired standing up all inning long.

What a weird game Ollie's had
6 IP, 4 H, 5 BB, 3 ER, 10 K. That's some bizarre shit.

This shit
is getting annoying

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 29, 2007 9:16 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't think
I can take much more of this. If we don't find a way to win this game we'll be in HUGE trouble. Someone needs to tell these clowns they're playing in Philly, not San Diego.

Eh. I"Huge trouble"
is a bit of an overstatement, imo.  Still, this sh!t IS getting annoying, no doubt.  That pickoff of Reyes was borderline ridiculous.

Yeah
Our lead will still be bigger than a lot of teams' if we lose. But it's still troublesome.

And
the Phillies are playing like a team with something to play for while the Mets always seem to get complacent-looking when they get a decent size lead in the division. Maybe they ease up when they know it won't be a big deal to lose a few. I'm not saying that they aren't trying, but a lot of these veteran guys have been through it before, maybe subconsciously they lose a bit of the hunger that the teams trying to get in the chase happen to have. Just a theory.

Let's go, boys
One run, and I don't care how you get it. Anyone remember Delagado's 2-run, game-tying HR off Tom Gordon last year?

Woo hoo!
Marlon! Here we go, nice to have Endy back for that reason too. Let's go Green, get that run in

fly
please, just a fly ball to the outfield.  please.

Not even surprised

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 29, 2007 10:00 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i cant believe
that thephils annc are calling that a good call... when they're guy practically tackled a 2nd baseman last week and they went nuts the other way

by metsexile on Aug 29, 2007 10:01 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So are the Mets guys
The SNY guys all agreed it was the right call. Anderson used his hands to push Rollins, it's textbook interference.

by JasonB on Aug 29, 2007 10:03 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

BULLSHIT
That was fucked up. He put his hands up, he wasn't trying to push him. Motherfucker!!!

Oh man, I'm pissed
Funny how the only time they ever enforce that rule is when the game is on the line. The only time I've ever been this mad after the game was in Kansas City three years ago, when they scored the tying run with 2 out in the 9th and the ump called him out.

The radio announcers disagree with the call
They say there was no chance to get Green at first.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
