Mets 8, Cubs 3

Hero of the day: Tom Glavine, career win #300

Obviously, it's an incredible achievement for Tom Glavine personally. As he echoed in his post-game news conference, the win is a big relief for him, and his comments speak to the human side of the game that is so easy to overlook at times. Three hundred career victories is an historic milestone, and I'm happy for Glavine that it's over with and that he was able to accomplish it on national television with the world's greatest baseball analyst on board to chronicle it for posterity.

Personal achievements aside, this was a huge win for the Mets to complete a very successful 4-2 road trip through Milwaukee and Chicago. The Braves and Phillies both won today so a Mets' win was crucial. Now that #300 is squarely in the rearview, Glavine and the Mets can focus on the Braves.

Also, great job on the game chatter. 385 comments! My favorite? gersch3's Am I the only chick in here tonight?. Nice to know we have the ladies represented here. Someone's gotta keep these oafs in line.

and I was there!!!!
Someone here might know...would it be possible to find Glavine's SNY post game interview online?  The one he did out on the field after the game?  I will be in the camera shot!!!  We had decent seats under the overhang, but moved up to right by the field in the 8th.  Then when it ended we got right behind the Mets dugout where all of the Mets fans were, and we kept chanting for him to come out, which he did.  We also chanted things such as "Jay Horwitz!", "Mrs. Glavine", and "Mrs. Glavine is hot!".  Fun times...must find myself now.

Ha, sweet!
It seems SNY hasn't posted their interview on the internet yet, but I checked ESPN's and I got on tv, though from a far view.

2:51 mark or so they switch to a crowd shot...I'm almost all the way in the upper right corner, wearing an orange shirt and a Mets hat.  Hahah...sweet.

The slash on Leonidas' eye
looks just like the one on Locke's eye. Another piece of evidence on Coincidence Island.

Anakin Skywalker
has a similar scar too.  Except I think his is on his right eye.

Star Wars is awesome.

The who?
Surely you're not describing Joe Morgan as the "world's greatest baseball analyst"?  (Unless you were being sarcastic and I missed it, of course.)

lmao
I drop "#$%^ the heck"'s all the time now, and none of my friends have any ideas what I'm talking about...

I love FJM.

When asked why I was a Mets fan, I responded, "pain is my lifeblood."

speaking of Joe
Anyone love the fact that Phil Mushnick has opened up with the heavy artillery on Morgan of late?  I knew the New York Post was good for something.
Free Ramon Castro!

Glad to, er, contribute...
Yeah, on second thought, I tend to assume other posters here are dudes.
You would think the handle Ivy gives my gender away, so hopefully there's no massive confusion there.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
