Open Thread - Game 138: Mets vs. Reds (09/04/2007) on SNY

Source: mlb.com

Tale of the tape:

Perez Belisle
ERA 3.39 5.33
FIP 4.34 4.55
K/9 8.90 6.37
BB/9 3.87 2.08
K/BB 2.30 3.06
HR/9 1.21 1.35
WHIP 1.28 1.47
GB/FB 0.64 1.15
BABIP .280 .340
eBABIP .296 .340

Que se dillio:

Ollie is 3-3 with a 4.43 ERA over his past seven starts. His 48 strikeouts in 40.2 innings is great, but his 21 walks in the same span is not very good. Add the walks to the 41 hits he has allowed and you're looking at a WHIP in the 1.50 range.

Reds announcers
love them some Lo Duca, noticed they heaped the praise on him yesterday too.

That throw out shows
Jose is tired, methinks.

by NewMet5 on Sep 4, 2007 8:42 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Damn
So I guess Paulie is going to be suspended for the playoffs when they catch him for these roids huh?

by Mikeybags84 on Sep 4, 2007 9:52 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Holy smoke
2 HRs and 7 RBIs.  Wright?  Beltran?  Alou?  Delgado?

Nope, LoDuca.  Wow.

Hopefully, it's enough to seal the deal with Philadelphia leading.

Holy crap!
This is amazing! Lo Duca hadn't had an extra base hit in two months. Where di this come from?

Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Woohoo!

by jalsonmi on Sep 4, 2007 9:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

More Shocking
Is Jose is 0-5 but we have 11 runs

by NewMet5 on Sep 4, 2007 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Double that
Reyes AND Wright both 0-5, but 11 runs. Crazy.

Everyone keeps talking about
how last year's team was so much tougher and more consistent and pounced on teams last year. Well, last year we didn't have anything resembling a losing streak, and this year we lost 5 straight in devastating fashion. Then we came right back and took it out on the Braves and Reds. Great teams always find a way to bounce back.

I think that
This year has produced a tougher team, my case has been we don't have the same career years we got from some players of last year, not to mention a much different bullpen. Everything went right for us last year. So to compare the two seasons is a bit unfair.

And by the way, nice 10 pitch walk for Gotay

by NewMet5 on Sep 4, 2007 10:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

oy
I hope that's not a serious injury for Delgado.  He's actually been swinging a good bat of late.

Put Green at 1st and let Milledge in the game.

Milledge had already been used
as a pinch hitter for Ollie. He got robbed of a double that PLD got hung up on.

Willie, Willie, Willie
I know, I'm a broken record, but why Heilman in this situation? Is more than one day off too much for a reliever?

To say it for the eight hundreth time, Humber, Humber, oh where art thou Humber?

by jalsonmi on Sep 4, 2007 10:18 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

don't tune out yet
Scott Schoeneweis is warming up in the Mets' bullpen now.  Willie found a way to keep things interesting!

by anonymous on Sep 4, 2007 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well
This is the type of game he should be in for.

But still, September is about seeing what these other guys can do for you. If Humber has a good month, how much would the Mets be helped by sticking him in the pen in the playoffs?

Again, I'm just harping on the same points over and over again. But damnit, Willie frustrates me!

by jalsonmi on Sep 4, 2007 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I was thinking the same thing
while watching the game.  What could have been a better situation to let the kid see some Big League batters for the first time this year?
We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

Put it in the books
Our first 5 game winning streak! And we stay ahead of Philly.

Mets up by 5 ninth
why not put in a call up and see how they do also not much Milledge. I know Green is good lately but Milledge brings much more to table.Willie is as conservative as Karl Rove

we'll see Lastings tomorrow
Delgado won't play, count on it, so Green will be at 1st.

Randolph also needs to give Reyes an off day tomorrow.

I think
Paul LoDuca was about to burst into giggles or something during his postgame interview.  I've never seen him grin that much.

Omar's off-season contract strategy. (Get it?)
(Yes, I'm having too much fun with GraphJam)
I'm doing a little study on the NL East and thought I'd share an interesting little tidbit. To all of the self-loathing Mets fans/lazy 'MLB insiders' and journalistic parrots who have 1) Condemned the entire Mets organization as a joke 2) Written off this core's impressive run to date and 3) Deified the Phillies as unstoppable juggernauts w/ no chance to lose this division:

Yes, those wins are weighted towards '06-'07 and yes, the Phillies' are more recent but the fact remains that no other team in that span can even come close to the Mets total of days in first place, which should be garnering a lot more respect than it has. If only because we still have nearly the same core in place that has clearly had a lot of success and health-willing can very easily do so again in 2010.
