ZEPHYRS 4, BISONS 4 Most notably, RHP Matt Harvey got the start in this one and allowed three runs over six innings. Offesnviely, the star was the French-Canadian C Jean-Luc Blaquiere who blasted a two-run shot. 1B Allan Dykstra went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI's, while 3B Zach Lutz went 1-for-3. SUNS 8, B-METS 3 RHP Gonzalez Germen got the start and though he was dominant through 2+ innings -- see, 5 K's -- he left in the third with two men on. RHP Taylor Whitenton promptly allowed the next batter to homer and the rout was on. OF Darrell Ceciliani was the offensive star in this one, going 3-for-5 with a double and a triple while the hot-hitting OF Cory Vaughn knocked his second homer of the spring. METS 3, CARDINALS 3 As usual, very few details about the A-level baseball aside from the few key participants, including LHP Carlos Vazquez, RHP Marcos Camarena, RHP Jacob DeGrom, RHP Julian Hilario and last but certainly not least LHP Steven Matz. According to first-hand reports Matz "looked really good", allowing one run and striking out one in one inning. Offensively, the game saw a number of notable outfielders in Brandon Nimmo, Gilbert Gomez and Joe Tuschak.
MiLB provides a nice in-depth look at some of the top performers around the Mets farm system in 2011. Includes some decent commentary from first-hand sources such as DePo, Backman, etc. NOTE - 'top performers' doesn't necessarily mean top prospects
He checks in at #30. No other Mets prospects made the list. Three Braves, two Phillies, two Nationals and no Marlins made it. Harvey has been selected for the MLB Futures Game, which will be played on Sunday, July 10th at 6:00 PM and can be seen on ESPN2.
Via the Binghamton Mets press release: "Binghamton Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey has been selected to represent the United States in the 2011 All-Star Futures Game on July 10 at Chase Field in Phoenix. He made his pro debut this season with the St. Lucie Mets, leading the High-A affiliate to the South Division First Half title in the Florida State League. In 14 starts with St. Lucie, the 22-year-old went 8-2 with a 2.37 ERA, averaging 10.9 strike outs per nine innings. He is one of two New York Mets farmhands that will take part in the annual game. 20-year old 3B Jefry Marte, a member of the St. Lucie Mets (High-A) and native of the Dominican Republic, will represent the World Team."
Alex Eisenberg at Baseball-Intellect runs down the Mets top 15, with free scouting reports covering Wilmer Flores and Juan Urbina.
Mets system ranked at #14. "Given the state of the franchise, our ranking of the Mets system likely comes as a surprise to some, but it remains fairly consistent with our view of the system from last year ( TEAM #16 – New York Mets )—a year that saw four of our top eight ranked prospects (Ike Davis, Reuben Tejada, Jon Niese and Josh Thole) make significant contributions with the Big League club. It is an interesting organization in the sense that there are few superstars but a substantial number of players that are likely to make Major League contributions—something that would typify last year’s rookie crop."
