Leo Mazzone has fled the Atlanta Braves, signing a three-year contract to serve as pitching coach of the moribund Baltimore Orioles. Mazzone's countless reclamation (resurrection) projects over the past fifteen seasons have been equal parts astounding and frustrating, the latter directly attributable to the Braves' consistent thrashing of the Mets over the past decade.
Mazzone will not be taking Marcus Giles or Chipper Jones with him, but this is definitely a big break for the Mets. That Mazzone didn't sign with the Yankees was icing on the cake.
The only thing that could make this news better is if Mel Stottlemyre was brought in to replace Mazzone on the Braves.
