BURNETT ON METS' RADAR

The Mets may have interest in free agent starter A.J. Burnett. Burnett is the prize of the free agent starting pitching class, though he certainly comes with some risks intact. He has had control problems in the past, both with his pitching and his demeanor. He has also had arm problems, undergoing Tommy John surgery several years back. Further, the Mets would have to unload a contract -- maybe Kris Benson's -- in order to pursue Burnett.

I think that Burnett is the kind of pitcher who could be helped immensely by Rick Peterson. Peterson's dogma preaches rock-solid mechanics and consistent release, two things that have conspired against Burnett in the past. His "stuff" is unquestionable.
