Cameron Begins Rehab

Mike Cameron began his rehab stint last night with the St. Lucie Mets (A). He went 1-for-1 with a double, a walk, and a run scored in four innings. Cammy is probbaly still a week or more away from returning to the Mets.

Victor Diaz has two htis in this last 13 at-bats, but is still hitting .317/.446/.583 on the season. Despite is comments to the contrary, Willie Randolph is going to have a hard time sending Diaz down to AAA if he keeps hitting anything like this. Of course, he doesn't have a hard time giving Jose Reyes and Kaz Matsui more at-bats than anyone else on the team despite their utter inability to get on base, so who knows what he's thinking.

Diaz could end up with a spot-starter/bench role with the Mets when Cameron comes back, which could leave Eric Valent as the odd man out, despite a solid season in 2004. Considering the fact that Chris Woodward and Marlon Anderson can both play the outfield and first bast, and that Valent has been hitting terribly in limited action, he might have a hard time sticking with the club.

Ideally, Cliff Floyd will stay hot and the Mets can trade him at the deadline. Unless of course you think he'll actually stay healthy this time.
