Cammy to DL?

It looks like Mike Cameron may be placed on the disabled list today or tomorrow. This move would have two benefits:

  1. It will give Cammy some time to rest his surgically-repaired wrist.
  2. It will allow the Mets to recall a starting pitching from AAA Norfolk (likely Aaron Heilman) to start on Saturday against the Braves instead of Jose Santiago.
The article at Mets.com indicates that Heilman could make three-or-four starts while Kris Benson remains on the disabled list with a sore pectoral muscle. Heilman was a #1 draft pick and was an absolutely dominant pitcher at Notre Dame. He has fallen apart as a pro, though. Here's hoping he gets another chance to turn it around.

Here are his stats from college:

      GP (GS) IP K/9 BB/9 H/9 HR/9 ERA
1998 31 (1) 67 10.48 2.55 6.18 0.27 1.61
1999 20 (14) 109 9.74 3.06 7.35 0.25 3.14
