On the heels of a nice 9-2 "revenge" victory over the struggling Reds, the Mets made a number of anticipated moves last night.
- Ramon Castro was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore groin. Journeyman Mike DeFelice was recalled from AAA Norfolk to take his place. DiFelice is hitting .276/.372/.602 with 14 walks and 16 XBH in 98 at-bats. He's also managed to strike out a fairly ridiculous 30 times in those at-bats.
- Victor Diaz was optioned to AAA Norfolk to make room for Kaz Ishii to come off of the DL. Ishii will make the start tonight, with Aaron Heilman going to the bullpen for the time being.
- With Ishii taking Victor Zambrano's start tonight, Zambrano will likely be pitching Saturday or Sunday against the Yankees. Whee!
The Mets won't notice much difference between Castro and DeFelice; they both stink. Ishii over Heilman is a big loss for the Mets, though Ishii over Zambrano would be a net gain.
I have added a link to the Mets Organizational Player Chart to the top of the right sidebar under "Numbers". It's a chart that I keep updated at MetsGeek.com of the entire professional organization from Low-A Hagerstown up to the Mets. If you notice anything is incorrect or needs updating, please let me know.
