Hard as it may be to believe, Carlos Beltran is back in the lineup tonight. He has a facial fracture that he has opted to forego surgery on, and will likely wear some kind of Richard Hamilton-like mask on the field as an added layer of protection.

There is also late word that Mike Piazza suffered a "small fracture to the pisiform bone on his left hand, which helps connects the pinky to the wrist." This would reinforce the internet buzz regarding Mike Jacobs' callup to the big league club. It's not clear who will depart to make room for Jacobs, but it looks like the Mets will give Mike Piazza a few days to rest and then reevaluate his wrist.

FYI, Jacobs is hitting a robust .321/.374/.591 in 430 at-bats with AA Binghamton.

My dog, Oscar, turns four today, so let's hope the Mets make it a happy birthday. Let's go Mets!
