HoJo named first base coach

After literally days of deliberation, Willie Randolph has selected Howard Johnson to be the Mets' next first base coach. Sandy Alomar will slide over to third base, taking the spot of Manny Acta, who was recently hired as manager of the Nationals.

Last year, HoJo was the hitting coach for AAA Norfolk, and he is the owner of arguably the best offensive season in Mets' history. In 1989, Johnson hit .287/.369/.559 (the league hit just .267/.338/.426) and accrued 38 win shares and an OPS+ of 169.
