The New Professionalism Applesauce - Beltran trade possibilities, Wright thinks Met lacked discipline

New, 50 comments

Meet the Mets

Still no breaking news on the managerial front, but some interesting player speculation going around the internets yesterday. For one thing, Matt Pignataro comments on the interesting possibility of a Beltran trade to the White Sox involving second baseman Gordon Beckham. So, while Daniel Murphy appears committed to improving his defense at that second base, the Mets are still extremely weak at the position and could acquire an intriguing young talent.

In the likely circumstances where Beltran remains a Met, the professionalism of his recent discussions with new GM Sandy Alderson certainly bode well for his future with the club.

Hisanori Takahashi looks to be officially finished in New York.

Here's an interesting article from Joel Sherman quoting Larry Bowa quoting David Wright about a lack of discipline and accountability in the Met clubhouse. Wright doesn't deny the comments.

Around MLB

Congratulations to Buster Posey and Neftali Feliz on their Rookie of the Year awards. Some interesting voting choices in the National League to talk about.

Some former Met coaches were busy yesterday with Rick Peterson getting fired in Milwaukee and Rick Waits signing on with Seattle.

The Phillies have finalized their 2 year extension with Jose Contreras. They've also hired Ryne Sandberg to manage their Triple-A affiliate.

While Albert Pujols and the Cardinals enter into extension talks, Kyle Lamb dreams of the day that Prince Albert is the cornerstone for the Marlins in their new stadium.

Some guys play in international competition because of pride in their country. Others do it in the hopes of avoiding mandatory military service.

This year's free agency is going to be a different feeling for Manny Ramirez.

And, finally, a great geeky diagram of the Hall of Fame from wezen-ball.
