Star of the Night

Let's beam up to Binghamton and give a pat on the back to Captain Kirk Nieuwenhuis (featured in the epic photo above) who went 2-4 and provided the winning run with his third HR of the season.  The leadoff hitting center fielder is now batting .306/.342/.481 on the year, though his 24:6 K/BB ratio needs some work.  Honorable Mentions go to R.A. Dickey (8 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 7 K) and Big Nick Evans, who hit his 5th bomb of the year.  Oh and Mexican-born Elmer Dessens of course, for no other reason than it's Cinco de Mayo.  Sorry Jefry Marte, while you might have hit your first homer of the campaign and extended your career-high hitting streak to 8 games, making 3 errors is kind of an issue.

Goat(s) of the Night:  St. Lucie's RHP Eric Beaulac & Savannah's 2B Alonzo Harris.  The lanky starter couldn't find the strike zone last night walking 7 batters in only 3.2 IP in a 10-6 loss and the freeswinging second baseman couldn't quite join in on the fun in a 12-4 Savannah win, taking a rough 0-5 with 3 K's and an error.  As Keith would say, hang with 'em Alonzo.
