New York Mets Daily Farm System Report - Thursday, May 6 2010
The Usual Suspects
AAA - Buffalo
- Fernando Martinez: 0-3 (.244/.294/.385); He still hasn't hit that stride yet
- Ruben Tejada: 1-4, K (.256/.295/.329)
- Josh Thole: 1-3, 2B, BB, K (.176/.247/.279)
- Chris Carter: 1-5, HR(5) (.337/.397/.602); Extended his hit streak to 7 games, what's new
AA - Binghamton
- Kirk Nieuwenhuis: 1-5, SB(9) (.293/.333/.457); Gotta improve that 27:7 K:BB rate
- Nick Evans: 1-3, 2B, 2 BB (.325/.409/.613) Forget Hessman, Big Nick deserves that bench spot even more
- Zack Lutz: 1-5, 3 K (.300/.438/.578); 20 BB vs. 26 K, not bad at all
- Lucas Duda: 2-4, HR(6), 2 RBI, BB (.270/.408/.530); 22 BB vs. 16 K, even better
Hi-A - St. Lucie
- Reese Havens: 2-5, K (.290/.353/.484); Playing strictly 2B at this point
- Eric Campbell: 4-5, 3B, 2R (.348/.437/.551); Campbell is up there with Carter and Evans as one of the system's hottest hitters
Lo-A - Savannah
- Wilmer Flores: 2-5, 2B, HR(4), 2 RBI (.315/.361/.541); 4 HRs already vs. 3 all of last season
- Jefry Marte: 1-3, 2 BB, K, E(8) (.228/.343/.333)
- Cesar Puello: 0-5, K (.250/.348/.315)
Star of the Night
We're gonna go with St. Lucie 1B/LF Eric Campbell (pictured) following his 4-5 performance last night. He is red hot right now, extending his hit streak to 10 games and batting .514 with a .1456 OPS in that span. The Norwich, CT/Boston College product was drafted by the Mets in the 8th round of the 2008 draft and has always had an interesting bat but considering the positions he plays will have to continue showing more power (3 HRs this season, 9 career HRs total before this season) if he wants to ever make an impact at the highest levels.
Kiko 'The Goat' Calero made another appearance last night: 6 ER, 5 H, 0 K. Oh and he got one out; completely took the Bisons out of this 9-2 loss. On the season he's got a 10.80 ERA with 22 hits allowed in only 15 IP, and remember this is in Triple-A. So for those of us who were hoping Kiko would ride in on a white horse and save Jenrry Mejia from Jerry's wrath, ain't happening anytime soon.
Overall, not a great night for the Mets system as all their affiliates lose. Buffalo lost to Indy 9-2, Binghamton went down to Erie 7-6, St. Lucie was defeated by Fort Myers 9-7 and Savannah once again played extra baseball but this time lost 5-4 to Delmarva in 11 innings.
