Star of the Night
Close call but let's go with St. Lucie CF Sean Ratliff. He has quietly gotten off to a nice start (.282/.336/.509) and while he he'll probably need to shift to a corner OF spot eventually, he's played a nice center for St. Lucie. In a system with little CF depth beyond Niuewenhuis, let him stay there as long as he can. The 2008 4th rounder is a big lefty with even bigger power (15 HR in '09) but doesn't possess the plate discipline of a typical Stanford product (see: The Animal) nor does he hit lefties well (.221 as a pro). In fact, his K:BB as a pro has been 208:49 and might one day end up as his fatal flaw. I would say he's probably a fringe prospect, depending on his ability to stay in center; but for today Sean Ratliff, you're a star!
Goat of the Night: Savannah RF Cesar Puello. His 0-4 with 3 K performance last night brings him to 1 for his last 14.
Overall, not a great night for the Mets system. Buffalo lost 5-8 to Indy, Binghamton lost to New Hampshire (and old friend Shawn Bowman) 8-5, St. Lucie was the lone winner, defeating Fort Myers 6-2 and Savannah wasted a nice pitching performance by Brandon Moore, losing 3-1.
