Some evening happenings:
- Andy Martino of the Daily News reports that Jeff Francoeur has essentially said "play me or trade me". Frenchy wants to start, a feeling he shares with most pro baseball players. Unfortunately for him, he has the worst OPS of any starting right fielder in baseball (by far), so demand for his services probably won't be very high. For those keeping track, it took one week after he was benched for Frenchy to say he wants out.
- Omar Minaya, John Ricco and Jerry Manuel held a closed-door meeting. You might remember Assistant GM Ricco as the brains behind the Francoeur trade. I imagine the meeting went something like this:
Omar and Ricco: Jerry, what would ya say... ya do here?
Jerry: Umm, uhh, that's a very good question, and uhh, in this particular meeting well uhh...
Chris Carter spent the day drinking Red Bull. Well, at least a shot of Red Bull. - Off-topic, but tangentially related to Carter's choice of energy drink: Thierry Henry scored in his New York Red Bulls debut against English power Tottenham Hotspur. It's a great time to be a soccer fan in New York. Check out SB Nation blog Once A Metro for Red Bulls coverage.
