Star of the Night
On the heels of his best start of the season on Friday, Jeurys Familia is once again the Star of the Night, thanks to his 12-strikeout performance last night. He now has 9.72 per nine innings, a fabulous mark. It would have been nice had he kept the walks down a little more, but I'll take what we got.
The Goat? Josh Stinson. Enough said.
System Roundup
- Buffalo had the day off.
- The B-Mets touched up Toronto prospect Kyle Drabek for five runs over five innings, but Josh Stinson was just a little worse. And by a little worse, I mean a lot. Stinson gave up eight runs over an inning and a third, and Eddie Kunz, his esteemed successor, was just as bad. By the end of the third inning, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats had an 11-0 lead. The B-Mets just couldn’t overcome that deficit and lost, 15-5. Boxscore
- I finally get to cover a St. Lucie victory, as they defeated Charlotte, 9-2. Kai Gronauer had three hits and knocked in two runs, and Wilmer Flores knocked in three of his own. On the pitching side of things, Jeurys Familia had another strong outing despite walking four batters over 6 2/3 innings. He allowed just two runs on five hits and struck out 12. Boxscore
- Savannah starter Armando Rodriguez pitched great, as he has all season long. He held Augusta to one run over seven innings, walking two and striking out nine. The problem was that his counterpart, Augusta starter Chris Heston, was a little bit better, holding the Sand Gnats offense to just two hits, walking none and striking out eight. Boxscore
- It was the All-Star Gala in the New-York Penn League, with the AL All-Stars defeating the NL All-Stars, 4-3 on three eighth-inning runs. Unfortunately Cyclone Ryan Fraser gave up the game-winning hit, a single to Jose Garcia. Yohan Almonte got the start and threw a scoreless inning, and Angel Cuan made an appearance later on where he struck out the side. Hitters Joe Bonfe, Jeff Flagg, Cory Vaughn, and Darrell Ceciliani combined to go 1-for-7 with a walk and a stolen base. Boxscore
- Rain down south, as the entire Appalachian League was rained out except for one game. Bristol-Kingsport was one of the casualties.
- The GCL Mets were down 5-3 to the GCL Cardinals but they scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the game, 8-5. The big inning consisted of four singles, a double, two errors, and two wild pitches: sounds like a Gulf Coast game to me. Boxscore
