Much was made of the Mets' predominantly homegrown lineup today -- seven of the nine starters came out of the team's minor league system -- but ultimately they couldn't overcome R.A. Dickey's second consecutive unspectacular start and fell to the Phillies, 6-5. The Braves beat the Giants, 6-3, which pushes the Mets nine games back in the NL East and into further irrelevance. They're 55-56 and whatever playoff hopes they have grow increasingly unlikely by the day.
Poem by Howard Megdal
Knuckleballs like pumpkins, where's Dickey's slipper
Phils hit him like a whole lineup of Chipper
Though bullpen shines, Mets lose by one
An outcome with Philly that's been way overdone
