Marlins 6, Mets 5: Carrasco Struggles, Rally Comes Up Short

The Mets had a bullpen day today as they used only relievers in their game against the Marlins. D.J. Carrasco got the start, and it didn't go all that well. D.J. allowed 3 runs in the first inning and made an error on a pick-off attempt in the third inning that allowed Hanley Ramirez to score. The process was good: 4 strikeouts and no walks, but the results were bad: 4 runs in 4 innings. Pat Misch followed up by allowing 2 runs in 2 innings, but Pedro Beato managed to throw two scoreless.

The offense took a while to get going with the first Mets' run of the game coming on an Ike Davis solo home run in the 6th inning. The lineup put together a 4-run rally in the 8th inning on several hits, but it ended when Jesus Feliciano was caught stealing second base to end the inning. That was all the scoring for the Mets' non-major-league lineup.

The second base competition chart is a thing of the past as the job will go to Brad Emaus to start the year. Here's hoping both Emaus and Daniel Murphy succeed in their roles with the team.

The Mets host the Braves tomorrow at 1:10 pm, and the game will be on WPIX and WFAN.
