Although it wasn't a flawless outing, Mike Pelfrey pitched pretty well in 5.2 innings of work this afternoon against the Braves. Big Pelf allowed 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2. All in all, it was a perfectly fine day on the mound for the Mets' Opening Day starter. The bullpen had an even better day. Manny Acosta, Tim Byrdak, Bobby Parnell, and Francisco Rodriguez combined for 3.1 shutout innings. The only downside to their day was that they issued quite a few walks.
The Mets scored 3 runs in the first and another 3 in the third and picked up one insurance run in both the 6th and 7th inning. Jose Reyes was 2-for-4 on the day while David Wright was 1-for-3. Brad Emaus continued his recent success as he was 1-for-3 and drew a walk.
The Mets visit the Cardinals tomorrow at 1:05 pm. The game can be heard on WFAN.
