Updates On Jason Bay, Jason Isringhausen, Ronny Paulino

Sandy Alderson commented today on the respective statuses of Jason Bay, Jason Isringhausen, and Ronny Paulino.

  • Jason Bay has been swinging a bat and continues to be pain-free. He has been on the disabled list since March 25 with an intercostal (rib) strain. I expect to see him back with the team as soon as this week.
  • Jason Isringhausen is throwing well in extended spring training and the Mets are considering all possible options with him, including a call-up to join the big league bullpen. He has about five days remaining in his 15-day extended spring training stint, after which the Mets will have to make a decision regarding his future with the team.
  • Ronny Paulino has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with anemia. He just finished serving his eight-game suspension, the tail end of a 50-game penalty he was slapped with last season after failing a test for performance-enhancing drugs. The Mets expect him to be activated for their series with the Nationals on April 26. Said Alderson, "It's important for him to ramp it up these next 15 days so he can help us. He'll initially help us in a backup role."
