D.J. Carrasco Optioned to Buffalo, Dillon Gee Remains with Mets

Following the game this afternoon, Sandy Alderson announced that D.J. Carrasco has been optioned to Buffalo, where he will pitch in the rotation to get innings. As a result, Dillon Gee will remain with the big league club when Chris Young is activated from the disabled list. No specific role has been defined for Gee. Said Alderson:

"We want the most effective group of pitchers we can have. Dillon does have to move into a different role, but we want to see how he performs. In the meantime, we need to get Carrasco back to where we know he can be effective."

In 7 appearances spanning 10.2 innings with the Mets, Carrasco yielded 13 hits, 6 walks, and 7 runs while striking out 6. Carrasco's track record is better than that, and he'll get an opportunity to get back to normal in the minors.

Gee, on the other hand, pitched fairly well in his two starts filling in for Chris Young. His control figures to be an asset coming out of the bullpen.

Alderson added that Ronny Paulino's injury situation is at least a day-to-day situation.
