Deja Vu All Over Again Applesauce: Mets late inning heroics go to waste.

Meet the Mets

Another ninth inning two-out, game tying home run from the Metsies preceded another crushing loss. This is starting to become a disturbing pattern, especially at home. Mike Pelfrey's struggles against the Marlins continued, though his start was hardly terrible. Meanwhile, Javier Vazquez BABIP'd the Mets to death, before Lucas Duda struck a righteous blow in the game's death throes. But just like Sunday's game, the jubilation didn't last long.

Of course, no tough Mets loss would be complete without a cameo, by Daniel Murphyman without a position. Izzy can take some of the blame as well.

Injury news: The Mets and Ike Davis will make a decision on his ankle by the end of the week. Also, Sandy Alderson does not expect Taylor Buchholz back this year. Johan Santana's second rehab start has been pushed back a day

Sandy Alderson did some spin on his deadline non-deals. The guy he did get, brand new Mets prospect Zack Wheeler made his first start for St. Lucie last night. I am sure it will be overanalyzed until he makes the next one.

The Mets have moved up to eighth in Beyond The Box Score's power rankings. Playoffs here we come!

Ted Berg talks two of my favorite topics, whether or not to tender Mike Pelfrey, and chicken parm grinders (it's not a hero).

Around the NL East

The Nationals made it three in a row, beating the Braves 5-3.

The Phils used a ninth inning comeback of their own to send it to extras, where they beat the Rockies.

Around MLB

The Dbacks cut the Giants lead in the West down to one game. #blameziegler

The Brew Crew and Zack Grienke extended their division lead over the Cards.

CC Sabathia won his 16th as the Yanks edged the White Sox

The Astros walked off against the Reds on a botched fielder's choice Hmm, that also sounds familiar.

The Indians used instant replay and the world's shortest home run to beat the Red Sox. The Red Sox also lost Clay Buchholz for the season with the dreaded fractured back. TRAID acquisition Erik Bedard is on tap for Thursday's start.

Fangraphs takes a look at how big of an upgrade some of the deadline deals will provide.
