The St. Lucie Mets entered last night's game in a 2-0 hole in their best of five series. It was fitting then that they'd send Darrin Gorski to the mound, as he'd been the club's best pitcher throughout the course of the entire season. Taking the mound for the Cubbies was Dae-Eun Rhee. The Cubs gave Rhee the lead before he even set foot on the mound, as Greg Rohan doubled home leadoff batter Evan Crawford in the top of the 1st.
In the bottom of the second, St. Lucie would jump into the lead when Pedro Zapata singled in both Cesar Puello and Gilbert Gomez. The lead would be shortlived however, as the Cubs would end up equalizing in the top of the 3rd inning. Gorski wasn't on last night at all, but he continued to just keep the Mets even until the 6th. At that point the Cubs started the inning with 4 straight singles en route to taking a 4-2 lead. That would be all she wrote for St. Lucie, as they went down quietly in every inning except the 8th. With the win, the Cubs have swept the FSL Champtionship series leaving only the Sand Gnats to go among Mets affiliates. The full box can be found here, and the usual suspects are highlighted below:
- Darrin Gorski: 6 IP, 11 H, 4 ER, 2 K, BB
- Wilmer Flores: 1-3, BB
- Jeffrey Marte: 1-4, 2B
- Cesar Puello: 1-4, K, R
- Gilbert Gomez: 1-3, 2B, BB, K, R
- Josh Edgin: 2 IP, 2 K, 0 ER, 2 K, BB
Congratulations to the St. Lucie Mets on a great season that came up just short of a title...it will be fun to see a quality team in Bingo for a change next season.
