John SIckels usually releases his top 50 hitting and pitching prospects at some point in January, but he gave his readers an early look at what those rankings might look like on Monday afternoon. There was a single Mets hitter and a trio of Mets pitchers on his lists, and he also mentioned another Mets prospect that got some consideration as one of the top 50 hitters. The Mets prospects on the list are as follows:
Mets hitting prospects among Sickels' top 50:
No. 28 - Wilmer Flores
Mets pitching prospects among Sickels' top 50:
No. 5 - Zack Wheeler
No. 37 - Jeurys Familia
No. 46 - Michael Fulmer
For those of you that read through all of the comments on those two lists, you'll note that Sickels also mentions that Brandon Nimmo was in consideration for a spot amongst the top 50 hitters. It's good to see a pair or players from Sandy Alderson's first draft already receiving accolades, and hopefully his second draft will look just as good in the fall of 2013.
It will be interesting to see what Sickels' lists look like come January, but I'd assume that there is very little change at the top. It would also be very interesting to see where he'd have had Matt Harvey and Jenrry Mejia if the pair were still eligible. That aside, it's good to see the Mets farm system getting noticed for something other than a lack of quality.
