Meet the Mets
Conflicting reports came out about the status of R.A. Dickey's contract negotiations yesterday, though both were on the positive side of the spectrum. One report stated the Mets were preparing to make Dickey a two-year offer, while the other stated the Mets had already made a two-year offer to Dickey two weeks ago and that the two sides were negotiating dollars. Either way, great news!
Mike Piazza is enjoying his job as the hitting coach for Team Italy in this year's World Baseball Classic but the future Hall of Famer would eventually like to get back to the majors in some capacity.
The Mets Holiday Ticket sale begins tomorrow at 10 AM. The team is selling holiday ticket plans and single season tickets for April and May.
Around the Majors
The Marlins, after trading everybody making money away, have signed OF Juan Pierre to a one year deal worth $1.6 million. No word on how soon the Marlins intend on trading Pierre away.
The Phillies' Double A team has rebranded itself as the Reading Fightin' Phils and their new mascot is an ostrich with fists. Huh.
Buster Olney said yesterday that the Blue Jays are close to naming a new manager and tossed out the names of Jim Riggleman and Jim Tracy as candidates. The only issue is that Riggleman hasn't even been contacted by the Blue Jays, so I guess that puts a giant hole in that theory.
Speedy Reds outfield prospect Billy Hamilton left an Arizona Fall League game after crashing into the outfield wall yesterday. Luckily, it seems like he avoided major injury.
