Mets Morning News: Dickey > Shields

In which Dayton Moore wins "The Contest" once and for all.

Meet the Mets

It's Day 349 of Dickey rumors (or at least it feels like that many) as the Daily News is reporting that the Mets are inching closer to an extension with the NL Cy Young winner. Andy Martino tweeted out that the Rangers are now willing to include Mike Olt in a deal for the Dickster, but the Mets are holding out for more. What do you guys think? (in fewer than 1000 comments please)

On the heels of last night's Royals/Rays blockbuster deal (more on that in a moment), Toby Hyde compares Shields to Dickey as a trade target.

Yesterday at AA

Brock Mahan celebrated Mike Hampton signing with Colorado. Why celebrate? Well, there's is the little matter of the compensation pick the Mets got in return.

Around Baseball

The Royals finally dealt Wil Myers (and Jake Odorizzi and Mike Montgomery and Patrick Leonard) for James Shields and Wade Davis. Baseball Nation has all the details. The Rays seem to have made out like bandits as Dayton Moore gashes his farm system to try and save his job. Dave Cameron is not amused.

The Dodges continue to print money in their basement, inking Korean lefty Hyun-Jin-Ryu to a six year deal worth thirty-six million. Combine that with the posting fee and Los Angeles is out sixty-two million. Not that it matters to them.

And Mark Reynolds signed a one-year deal with the Indians for six million dollars plus incentives.

And now, your Mets highlight of the day to get you thorough the long, cold winter

Since I'm annoyed with the Rays for getting Wil Myers, here's Bonesaw blasting two home runs against them. Kind of rooting for Kirk to be the starting centerfielder for the 2013 Mets if only because he has 80 grade walk-up music.

And your non-baseball link of the day

In honor of Messi's record breaking goal this weekend, here's Wright Thompson on the Argentinian superstar.
