Seasons' Greetings all, let's get to the news.
Meet the Mets
R.A. Dickey was voted the Daily News' Sportsperson of the year. R.A's co-author Wayne Coffey explains why. Appreciated, but no explanation is really warranted, after all, it's R.A. Dickey.
Reportedly John Maine has signed a one-year deal with the Marlins. You know, unless he's lying about it.
Around MLB
At Baseball Nation, Steven Goldman piles on the Marlins. But it's the Marlins, they probably deserve it.
Vesting Option Alert! Nick Swisher signed with the Indians for four years and 56 million with a fifth year vesting option that could run the total value of the deal to 70 million. This offseason is bananas. Also, I have no idea what the Indians plan is for 2013.
Bill Madden would like the 'vigilante sabermetric brigade' to get off his lawn. Look, I've pretty much thrown in the towel w/r/t any Hall of Fame debate, but let's not act like Morris not being in is a sabermetric issue. The writers had plenty of opportunities to vote Morris in before sabermetric analysis moved into the mainstream. Morris wasn't even close until recent years.
Livan Hernandez intends to keep pitching. That about says it all right there.
And finally, the vigilante sabermetric brigade at Beyond the Box Score takes a look at the kwERA leaders for 2012, and who might be due for some improvement or regression in 2013.
