Nationals 8, Mets 2: Rough Day For R.A.

New, comments

R.A. Dickey was knocked around by the Nats today, allowing five runs on eight hits in three innings. He struck out two and walked one. Ryan Zimmerman hit two doubles off Dickey, so at least the major damage wasn't inflicted by no-names wearing #77. Plus it's all part of the plan, according to Dickey:

I’m gathering information, and I got a lot of information today from the Nationals. Hopefully I can put that to use. You know, I faced these guys so much during the regular season last year and the year before. They’ve got a pretty good idea of what they need to do to probably have success. And I need to identify what that is, and feel like I took a step in that direction today.

Five Mets pitchers followed with varying levels of success. Jeremy Hefner, Bobby Parnell and D.J. Carrasco each tossed a scoreless frame, with only Hefner notching a strikeout. Robert Carson gave up one run in his inning of work and Miguel Batista allowed two runs on two doubles in his inning.

Mets batters were K happy, striking out 14 times against Nats pitching. Josh Satin went 0-for-3 with 3 K's, Matt den Dekker went 0-for-2 with 2 K's and Jason Bay went 0-for-3 with 2 K's. At least he put the ball in play once. Ike Davis and Omar Quintanilla were the offensive heroes, with each going 2-for-3 with a double. Keep pluckin' that chicken, Ike. The Mets play the Marlins in Port St. Lucie tomorrow at 1:10pm. WPIX has the television broadcast; WFAN has the radio broadcast.
