The Tigers' seven-run sixth inning against Danny Herrera and Jon Rauch doomed the Mets today. James McCann's grand slam off Rauch was the big blow. Overall, the two relievers combined to allow eight runs on eight hits with three walks in 2.1 innings pitched. Yama hama.
Mets pitching wasn't all bad -- R.A. Dickey tossed four strong innings, allowing a run on three hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Prince Fielder took Dickey deep, accounting for the only Tigers run against our beloved knuckleballer. Dickey required two stitches after being spiked on the right heel by Corey Jones while covering first base in the third inning. He says it is not serious, a "superficial wound only."
Josh Edgin struck out three in 1.2 innings of work but will be optioned to Double-A Binghamton. Edgin had a standout spring, striking out ten in 8.2 innings without allowing a run.
Good news: Ike Davis hit a two-run home run. Bad news: the Mets managed just one other hit, a single by Lucas Duda. Click here for the box score.
The Mets travel to Disney to play the Braves tomorrow at 12:00pm. The game will not be on local television or radio.
Nice job by MetsFan4Decades; her effort in the game thread embiggens us all.
