Jon Niese had the worst post-nose-job start of his career tonight, allowing five runs in three innings to an Astros team that everyone says is terrible and probably is. Nevertheless, they've now beaten the Mets in two straight games and the Mets have yet to win a game since they played cowboy dress-up Sunday night.
We knew it was over when...
Chris Snyder hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second to give the Astros a 5-0 lead. The Mets picked up a few runs in the middle innings but could never quite claw their way back from the early deficit.
What else?
Mets pitchers walked eight and struck out two. They're now 5-17 in their history in games in which they walked at least that many and struck out at least that few. An inauspicious combination to be sure.
