Padres 11, Mets 5: The Neverending Baseball Game

Hefner gets the hook.
Hefner gets the hook.

The Mets opened up a four-game set with the Padres with a painstakingly slow loss. Jeremy Hefner threw two scoreless innings before an hour-long rain delay but surrendered six runs in 1.2 innings once the game resumed. The Mets had scored a weather-assisted run in the second inning and pulled to within three on a two-run David Wright home run in the sixth. The bullpen gave up four more runs before the Mets scored another pair of runs on an Ike Davis single in the eighth, but the comeback was not to be.

We knew it was over when...

Manny Acosta turned a three-run deficit into a six-run deficit in the seventh inning.

What else?

Wright is now hitting .405/.500/.628 on the season.
