AAA - Buffalo Bisons (27-21)_______________________________________

SCRANTON-WB 8, BUFFALO 7 (Box)

Jeurys Familia continues to struggle at Buffalo as he was out after 2 innings in this one. No walks, but after 47 pitches through 2 innings, Wally Backman had seen enough. Toby has the scouting report from the game here. Fortunately for Buffalo, Familia's opposite number, Yankees prospect Dellin Betances was equally ineffective. His two innings of work yielded 4 walks, a wild pitch, a hit by pitch and a balk. So it was turned over to the bullpens. The Mets pen blinked last as Pedro Beato gave up a game-tying two run home run in the seventh and Elvin Edgar Ramirez surrendered the walk-off blast to Jack Cust in the tenth, which had to be awkward for everybody, as the game was played in Buffalo with Scranton as the home team.

  • 2B Jordany Valdespin: 1-4, RBI, BB, 2 SB (4) (.272/.316/.380)
  • 1B Josh Satin: 1-3, R, RBI, 3 BB, K (.280/.368/.380); Satin back to being Satin with 12 BBs in his last 10 games. HAIL SATIN!
  • PH-3B Brad Emaus: 0-3 (.262/.340.333)
  • RHP Jeurys Familia: 2 IP 4 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 1 K, HB (4-1, 4.98, 43.1 IP, 45 H, 34 BB, 46 K 2 HR); You can keep saying 'give it time,' (and I will) but Familia may be destined for the pen.
  • LHP Josh Edgin: 1.2 IP, 1 ER, 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K (3 SV, 4.03, 22.1 IP, 25 H, 10 BB, 22 K, 1 HR)

AA - Binghamton Mets (22-24)_____________________________________

NEW HAMPSHIRE 9, BINGHAMTON 3 (Box)

In 2012:

Darin Gorski against New Hampshire: 12.1 IP, 15 ER, 22 H, 8 BB, 12 K, 3 HR

Darin Gorski against everyone else: 32.1 IP, 8 ER, 19 H, 16 BB, 29 K, 2 HR

There's your recap.

  • LF Juan Lagares: 0-4, 2 K (.270/.326/.362); Yeah, his 2011 BABIP sucked me in too.
  • CF Matt Den Dekker: 1-2, 2 R, 2 BB, CS, (.314/.382/.530)
  • 3B Jefry Marte: 0-4, RBI, (.304/.373/.426); Just 2 for his last 16.
  • 2B Reese Havens: 1-3, BB, K, (.153/.307/.250)
  • LHP Darin Gorski: L, 4.2 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 3 K, 2 HR, WP, E (3), (2-3, 4.63, 44.2 IP, 41 H, 24 BB, 45 K, 5 HR); SSS fluke? Has NH just figured him out? I don't know. The control issues are an...issue, though.
  • RHP Brad Holt: 1 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 0 K, (6.38, 18.1 IP, 24 H, 9 BB, 13 K, 0 HR) ; Sigh.
  • RHP Armando Rodriguez: 2 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K, (2.37, 30 IP, 20 H, 5 BB, 28 K, 1 HR)

Hi-A St. Lucie Mets (37-11)________________________________________

ST. LUCIE 8, CHARLOTTE 3 (Box)

Kind of unfair to take the winningest team in the minors and toss a rehabbing MLB starter on the mound, but nobody said things had to be fair. Chris Young was merely decent, but the St. Lucie bats poured in the runs as the Mets continue to make a mockery of the Florida State League.

  • 3B Wilmer Flores: 1-4, HR (8), R, 2 RBI, (.314/.348/.509)
  • CF Darrell Ceciliani: 1-3, R, 2 K; He's back!
  • SS Wilfredo Tovar: 2-3, R, RBI, HBP, (.287/.353/.380)
  • RF Cory Vaughn: 2-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R, 2 K, (.234/.319/.455)
  • 2B Robbie Shields: 3-4, 2 RBI, BB, SB (7) (.270/.258/.387)
  • RHP Taylor Whitenton: 1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 BB, 0 K, Balk (3.38, 18.2, 19 H, 13 BB, 21 K, 2 HR); Hey, remember when we were all intrigued by Whitenton? I guess the lesson is don't get too attached to A-ball guys with reliever ceilings.
  • LHP Adam Kolarek: SV, 1.2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K, (6 sv, 1.96, 23 IP, 18 H, 7 BB, 34 K, 0 HR); Except for Kolarek, he's going to be awesome, you guys! But seriously, he should probably join Rosario at Bingo soon. Probably after St. Lucie clinches. Which might be next week.
REHAB ALERT: Chris Young started for St. Lucie and went six and a third, surrendering 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out 1.

Lo-A Savannah Sand Gnats (28-19)__________________________________

AUGUSTA 2, SAVANNAH 1 (Box)

It seems like Savannah and Augusta play just about every night lately. This one turned into the expected pitcher's duel with prospects Michael Fulmer and Kyle Crick on the mound, though both were pulled after four innings. The pens were equally good last night, but an error by Greg Pron in the sixth helped Augusta push across the eventual winning run. Savannah had their opportunities, but couldn't cash in, going 1-11 with RISP.

  • C Cam Maron: 2-4, (.216/.323/.288); One of my 2012 sleepers, has struggled in his full season debut
  • 1B Aderlin Rodriguez: 1-3, BB, K (.246/.324/.431); Another start at 1B makes you go, "hmmmm"
  • DH Travis Taijeron: 0-4, 3 K, (.272/.389/.506)
  • CF Gilbert Gomez: 1-4, R, 3 K, SB (1), Outfield Assist; TOOLZ!
  • RHP Michael Fulmer: 4 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 4 K, (2-2, 3.74, 33.2 IP, 31 H, 16 BB, 32 K, 4 HR)

Star of the Night

No really great performances last night, so Robbie Shields' 3-4 night gets the nod. Honorable Mention to Josh Satin and his 3 walks. He knows how to get the front office's attention. MONEYBALL!

Goat of the Night

Sorry, Elvin Ramirez, you've been awesome, but walkoff home run at home is a walkoff home run at home. Edgar Ramirez is not Elvin Ramirez, apparently. Nor is he Ray Ramirez. I was wondering why they didn't have an updated line for Elvin Ramirez on MiLB.com. Now I know. Edgar, not Elvin, gets the horns.
