Mets Player Performance Meter, Week 7: Pitchers

Viva Johan.
Viva Johan.

Starting pitching may have been the Mets' biggest concern at the beginning of the season, but with two months of games in the books, the bullpen has been the team's weakest link. On the season, the bullpen's 5.45 ERA is the worst in the National League by a wide margin.

This week's player meter covers games from May 24 through May 30.

Player Last Week This Week Comment
Manny Acosta, RP Like so many of the fly balls he gave up, Acosta's outta here.
Miguel Batista ,SP Batista made a rehab start with Binghamton and gave up 5 runs with 4 BB and just 3 K in 7 innings. For some reason, he might return to the Mets' rotation.
Tim Byrdak, RP While not his usual dominant self, he wasn't a trainwreck like the rest of the bullpen.
Robert Carson, RP Back in Buffalo after giving up 2 runs in 2 innings of work without a strikeout.
R.A. Dickey, SP Dickey was superb once again. Over his last three starts, he has 29 K and 2 BB in 20.1 innings with a 1.77 ERA.
Jack Egbert, RP Eggman recorded two outs without a strikeout, walk, hit, or run.
Frank Francisco, RP Francisco's looking like the best relief pitcher the Mets have.
Dillon Gee, SP In two starts, Gee posted 9.2 K/9, 2.6 BB/9, and a 1.98 ERA. He's quietly been one of the Mets' best surprises this year.
Jeremy Hefner, SP Interrupted by rain after just two innings, his first big league start was no good, but Hefner bounced back with a decent start against the Phillies and shocked everyone by hitting a home run.
Jon Niese, SP 7 K in 5 IP is good. 5 BB in that same span is not.
Bobby Parnell, RP No fun to hang around...
Ramon Ramirez, RP Feelin' that same old way...
Jon Rauch, RP No fun to hang around, freaked out...for another day.
Chris Schwinden, RP Schwinden gave up two runs and recorded just two outs in the bullpen's failed attempt to keep the Mets in the game last night.
Johan Santana, SP With a complete-game shutout, Santana now sports a 2.75 ERA and 2.68 FIP.
