Jon Niese gave up plenty of hits and issued four walks in five innings of work, but the Phillies only got a pair of runs against him. Still, the Mets were down two runs with Roy Halladay on the mound, but that didn't matter once David Wright hit a two-run, two-out double off Halladay in the sixth inning.
We knew it was over when...
Jordany Valdespin hit a three-run home run against Jonathan Papelbon in the ninth inning. It was the first hit of his major league career.
What else?
For the second day in a row, one of the Mets' starting position players left the game early because of injury. Josh Thole tagged out Ty Wigginton on a play at the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning, but Wigginton collided with Thole's head. It didn't look good, but Thole left the field under his own power.
