R.A. Dickey struck out a career-high 12 opponents and allowed just one unearned run in a complete-game one-hitter against the Rays. The Mets gave him much more than enough run support, getting out to a seven-run lead by the end of the sixth inning. Dickey broke Jerry Koosman's franchise record ending his streak of consecutive scoreless innings at 32.2.
We knew it was over when...
Dickey took the mound. He's so good.
What else?
The run that broke Dickey's scoreless streak came in the ninth inning. Rays shortstop Elliot Johnson reached on a David Wright error, advanced to second and third on a pair of passed balls, and scored on a ground out.
Andres Torres, Daniel Murphy, Ike Davis, and Mike Nickeas were all big contributors to the nine runs the Mets scored.
On the season, Dickey now has 90 strikeouts and 19 walks in 90 innings of work, and he's a knuckleball pitcher. It's amazing.
