The Mets loaded the bases with just one out in the second inning but were only able to plate one run on a bases-loaded walk by Johnny Cueto of Mets pitcher Chris Young. They wouldn't score again against Cueto, who had eight strikeouts and walked just one in seven innings of work, or Reds relief pitchers Jose Arredondo and Sean Marshall.
In addition to the aforementioned run-scoring walk, Chris Young fared pretty well on the mound. He went seven innings, struck out two, walked two, and allowed three runs, two of which were earned. The Mets did not exactly play a sharp defensive game. Jon Rauch and Frank Francisco each pitched a scoreless inning a piece to keep the game within reach through the eighth and ninth inning.
We knew it was over when...
The Mets entered the eighth inning trailing by two runs against the dominant Reds bullpen.
What else?
With the loss, the Mets continued their recent trend of sweeping or getting swept in three-game series.
