The New York Mets have added right-handers Chris Young and Miguel Batista; purchasing Young’s contract and activating Batista from the disabled list. In corresponding roster moves, the Mets have designated right-hander Jack Egbert for assignment and placed right-hander Ramon Ramirez on the 15-day DL.

Young is set to make his first major league start in 13 months tonight when the Mets face the Washington Nationals. Young has been sidelined due to shoulder surgery which has keep him out since the beginning of May, 2011.

Young has made four rehab starts, three for the Mets High-A affiliate and one for their Triple-A squad. Over his 23 innings pitched, Young has maintained an ERA and WHIP of 2.35 and 1.043 with 3.5 SO/9 and 2.0 BB/9.

Batista has been out since the middle of May while dealing with a minor pulled muscle in his lower back. Prior to his injury, Batista had appeared in 13 games for the Mets, including four starts. The 41-year-old maintained an ERA and WHIP of 3.95 and 1.683 over his 27 1/3 innings pitched.

Ramirez lands on the Mets DL after he strained his right hamstring on his way out of the bullpen to celebrate with teammates following Johan Santana’s no-hitter.
