Unlike last night, the Mets and Yankees played a close game. Like last night, however, the Mets lost. Dillon Gee threw seven good innings, allowing three runs to the same lineup that hit up Johan Santana for four home runs last night. Gee allowed his first run on a series of singles, but he, too, was done in by the long ball. A two-run line-drive home run by Mark Teixeira in the seventh was the deciding play in the game. As for the Mets' bats, Omar Quintanilla and David Wright hit a solo home run a piece. Bobby Parnell allowed a solo home run to Curtis Granderson in the eighth, which certainly didn't help the Mets' cause.
We knew it was over when...
Jordany Valdespin struck out with the tying run on first base to end the game. It really felt like the Mets had a shot there.
What else?
If the Mets don't avoid the sweep, prepare for "the season is over" headlines.
