AAA - Buffalo Bisons (48-45)_______________________________________
BUFFALO 8, PAWTUCKET 2 (Box)
Buffalo has come out of the AAA All-Star Break with gusto, pounding Pawtucket for the second straight game. Jeurys Familia made it back to back solid starts, striking out six and walking only one over his six and a third innings of work. The Bisons bopped four home runs, including two off the bat of Fred Lewis (and one from Josh Satin, HAIL!)
- CF Matt Den Dekker: 0-3, R, BB, 2 K
- 3B Zach Lutz: 0-5, 3 K; Probably not the start he was looking for, 1-10 with four strikeouts in first two games back from the DL.
- 2B Josh Satin: 2-3, HR (10), 2 R, 2 RBI, BB; Four bombs in his last ten games, 2012 triple slash starting to look like 2011 triple slash after a rough April. Also made his second consecutive start at second base.
- RHP Jeurys Familia: W, 6.1 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 6 K
- LHP Justin Hampson: 0.2 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K
- RHP Elvin Ramirez: 1 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K
AA - Binghamton Mets (43-48)_____________________________________
GAME 1: BINGHAMTON 2, ERIE 0 (Box)
GAME 2: BINGHAMTON 5, ERIE 4 (8) (Box)
Break up the B-Mets! Binghamton rode a strong outing from Cory Mazzoni in game one, and walked-off in game two to sweep their doubleheader with Erie. That makes it six wins in eight games for the B-Mets who are slowly crawling back towards .500
- CF Juan Lagares: 1-3, R // 2-4, 2 R, K, SB (16)
- 3B Jefry Marte: 0-2 // 2-4, HR (8), R, 2 RBI; Two bombs in the second half already, hit tool and raw power have always been there, just never seems to put it together for a full season.
- 2B Reese Havens: 0-2, R, BB, K // DNP
- DH Allan Dykstra: DNP // 1-2, R, RBI, HBP
- 1B Wilmer Flores: 1-3, 3B, 2 RBI // 0-3, R, BB
- SS Wilfredo Tovar: 0-2 // DNP
- C Juan Centeno: DNP // 0-3
- LHP Mark Cohoon: 6 IP, 0 ER, 1 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 6 K, E (2)
- RHP Cory Mazzoni: W, 7 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 1 K; Nice start, but 18 K in 31 AA innings is a bit of a red flag.
- LHP Robert Carson: 1 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 2 K
Hi-A - St. Lucie Mets (9-12 // 58-32)________________________________________
TAMPA 8, ST. LUCIE 2 (Box)
Erik Goeddel continues to struggle in July, and the St. Lucie defense made three errors behind him as the Mets lost a sloppy one to the Yankees. Shockingly, one of those errors was by Aderlin Rodriguez, and he now has 20 for the season.
- RF Cesar Puello: 1-1, RBI; Left in the 4th for a pinch hitter, probably not a good sign.
- 3B Aderlin Rodriguez: 0-4, 2 K, E (2)
- LF Cory Vaughn: 0-3, BB, 3 K
- C Blake Forsythe: 2-4, 2B, R
- RHP Erik Goeddel: L, 5 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, WP
Lo-A - Savannah Sand Gnats (9-13 // 50-39)__________________________________
SAVANNAH 10, DELMARVA 6 (Box)
The Gnats' bats finally showed up in Deleware as Savannah scored more runs last night as theh had in their previous three games combined. Dustin Lawley, Greg Pron and Charley Thurber all had multi-hit games, and the lumber covered for a pair of rough outings by Alex Panteliodis and Marcos Camarena. I'll be joining the Gnats for four in Lakewood starting tonight.
- C Cam Maron: 0-3, R, 2 BB
- CF Gilbert Gomez: 1-4, R, BB, K, SB (4)
- RHP Marcos Camarena: W, 3.1 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 HR
- LHP TJ Chism: 1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K
- CF Brandon Nimmo: 3-4, R, K
- SS Philip Evans: 1-2, 2 BB
- DH Kevin Plawecki: 0-4, K
- 2B Juan Carlos Gamboa: 1-3, RBI, BB
- RHP Gabriel Ynoa: L, 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 R, 6 H, 1 BB, 4 K
Short Season A - Brooklyn Cyclones (15-10)__________________________________
CONNECTICUT 5, BROOKLYN 2 (Box)
A rather flat performance from the Cyclones. Starter Gabriel Ynoa had trouble putting guys away, and his defense did him no favors. Nimmo collected three hits (two rockets) and Philip Evans made a pair of nice plays in the field, but those were basically the highlights as the Tigers posted a five-run third and then coasted from there. Then the Cylones bus got hit by a truck. Not a banner evening.
Appalachian League (R) - Kingsport Mets (4-16)__________________________________
Endless series of postponements continue for Kingsport. Field is soaked, per poor marooned Toby Hyde.
Star of the Night
Fred Lewis hit two home runs. So there ya go.
Goat of the Night
Erik Goeddel in his two starts in July: 9.1 IP, 7 K, 7 BB, 5.79 ERA. Ouch.
