AAA - Buffalo Bisons (49-45)_______________________________________
BUFFALO 8, PAWTUCKET 2 (Box)
The Bisons continue to lay the wood to the PawSox, making it three straight wins out of the All-Star Break and seven in a row overall. Despite striking out 14 times, Buffalo's line-up still managed 13 hits. BABIP the best! Also, Zach Lutz announced that he was healthy with a solo shot and a pair of walks.
- CF Matt Den Dekker: 1-5, 2 RBI, 2 K; 37:5 K:BB ratio at AAA and now over 100 strikeouts for the season.
- 3B Zach Lutz: 2-3, HR (4), 2 R, RBI, 2 BB; When he's healthy, he hits.
- 2B Josh Satin: 0-4, BB, 3 K
- RHP Chris Schwinden: 4 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 4 K, WP
- RHP Jenrry Mejia:1.2 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR; 7.07 ERA as a reliever
- LHP Justin Hampson: 0.1 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 0 K
AA - Binghamton Mets (44-48)_____________________________________
BINGHAMTON 1, ERIE 0 (Box)
Normally this goes down below, but here is your game story:
RHP Zack Wheeler: W, CG, SO, 9 IP 0 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 7 K, HBP
- CF Juan Lagares: 0-4
- DH Jefry Marte: 1-3
- 2B Reese Havens: 1-4, HR (7), R, RBI, 2 K
- 1B Allan Dykstra: 0-3, BB, 3 K
- 3B Wilmer Flores: 1-4
- SS Wilfredo Tovar: 0-3
- C Francisco Pena: 0-2, BB
Hi-A - St. Lucie Mets (10-13 // 59-32)________________________________________
ST. LUCIE 3, TAMPA 1 (Box)
Starter Angel Cuan gave up an RBI double in the second inning, but was rock soiid after that. St. Lucie scratched out three runs on an Alonzo Harris home run, a Kai Gronauer double and a AdRock RBI single. Adam Kolarek shut the door, and the Mets salvaged the last game of their four game series with the Yanks.
- RF Cory Vaughn: 1-3, RBI, K
- 3B Aderlin Rodriguez: 2-3, RBI, BB
- LF Travis Taijeron: 0-4, K
- 2B Danny Muno: 0-3, BB; Back from his 50 game suspension for failing a drug test.
- LHP Angel Cuan: W, 7.2 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 HR; Diminutive southpaw just keeps plugging along, but 6:1 K:BB ratio against fellow lefties suggests future LOOGYdom.
- LHP Adam Kolarek: 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K
Lo-A - Savannah Sand Gnats (9-14 // 50-40)__________________________________
LAKEWOOD 8, SAVANNAH 1 (Box)
The first four batters Jim Fuller faced: Single, Walk, Walk, Grand Slam. It didn't get much better after that. Sigh. The stadium is really nice, and Domingo Tapia pitches tonight. So I have that going for me at least. This is a pretty brutal Gnats line-up to watch without AdRock, Taijeron and Rivera, though.
- C Cam Maron: 1-4; Had a large family and friend contingent make the trip from Long Island.
- SS Matt Reynolds: 1-2, BB, K, HBP; Could have easily been charged with two errors at SS, very much a work in progress there right now. Also fell down going after a short outfield pop-up.
- 1B Albert Cordero: 0-1; Spotted Cole Frenzel at 1B for an inning. Don't remember seeing Frenzel do anything tohat might have tweaked something
- CF Gilbert Gomez: 0-2; Gomez on the other hand, fouled a ball off the inside of his leg hard in his second at-bat. He hobbled down to first on a groundout and stuck it out until the sixth, but was lifted for a pinch hitter in his next at-bat.
- CF Brandon Nimmo: 2-3, 3B, 2 R, RBI, BB, K; .314/.442/.514 over his last ten games.
- SS Philip Evans: 1-5, RBI
- 1B Jayce Boyd: 0-4, BB
- LF Steven Sabol: 0-2, R, 2 BB; JuCo pick from this year has 14 BB against 15 K and some pop in his bat to go with it.
- RHP Luis Mateo: W, 7 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 8 K, HBP; I think he's probably a reliever in the end, but this is a live arm that is just too good for short season ball. With Panteliodis and Fuller starting in Savannah, there's easily a spot available if they want to make one.
Short Season A - Brooklyn Cyclones (16-10)__________________________________
BROOKLYN 6, STATE COLLEGE 3 (Box)
Appalachian League (R) - Kingsport Mets (4-17)__________________________________
JOHNSON CITY 11, KINGSPORT 3 (Box)
Kingsport finally got away from their deluged field, but the results elsewhere were about the same. Don't think they are going to compete for the Appalachian League title this year.
- SS Gavin Cecchini: 0-2, BB, RBI, SF
- 2B Branden Kaupe: 1-2, 2 BB, K
- C Tomas Nido: 1-3, 2B, R, BB, K
- RHP Chris Flexen: 1.2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR, WP; That might be the most Appy League pitching line ever. Especially the six strikeouts in 1 2/3.
- RHP Matthew Budgell: 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K
Star of the Night
ZACK WHEELER
Goat of the Night
Jim Fuller just didn't have much last night. Fastball was flat and all over the place. His fastest pitch of the night hit 91, and it went out of the park a heck of a lot faster than that.
