Matt Harvey Will Start Thursday For Mets

Not Matt Harvery.
Not Matt Harvery.

According to their official Twitter feed, Matt Harvey, the Mets' second-best pitching prospect behind Zack Wheeler, will start Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Harvey, whom you can follow on Twitter at @MattHarvey43, will be placed on the taxi squad on Monday, will be added to the active roster on Tuesday, and will make his big league debut two days later. No corresponding move has been announced to make room for harvey on the 25-man club, but Jeremy Hefner and Elvin Ramirez are both likely candidates for a demotion to Triple-A Buffalo.

There's no word yet on what uniform number Harvey will select, as his customary #43 is already taken by R.A. Dickey.

In twenty starts spanning 110 innings with the Bisons this season, Harvey has a 3.68 ERA, 112 strikeouts, and 48 walks. In his most recent start Saturday against the White Sox' Triple-A affiliate Charlotte Knights, Harvey allowed six runs on seven hits — including two of his nine home runs surrendered this season — in five innings, though he did strike out six batters and walked just two.
