Both the Mets and the Reds had plenty of baserunners this evening, but neither team scored until Jay Bruce hit a walk-off, three-run home run in the ninth inning against Josh Edgin. Chris Young allowed eight hits and issued four walks in just five-and-two-thirds innings of work but somehow managed to keep the Reds off the board. Mat Latos allowed five hits and issued two walks in seven scoreless innings, too, but Young's scoreless outing was a bit more mystifying.
The Mets' bullpen held until Manny Acosta took the mound for the ninth and issued a leadoff walk and allowed a single before Josh Edgin was brought in and served up the aforementioned home run to Bruce.
We knew it was over when...
Manny Acosta was called upon to begin the ninth inning.
What else?
- The Mets have been shut out in three of their last six games.
- R.A. Dickey starts tomorrow, and R.A. Dickey is the best.
