R.A. Dickey pitched a complete-game shutout against the Marlins this evening as his knuckleball kept Miami off balance all night. It was his fifth complete game and third shutout of the season. He struck out seven, walked three, and he's now the owner of a 2.63 ERA. Watch out, Johnny Cueto, Dickey's winning the Cy Young.
At the plate, Ike Davis was responsible for driving in all three runs. He hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to plate Ruben Tejada, and he gave R.A. two runs of insurance with a bomb of a two-run home run in the seventh.
We knew it was over when...
Dickey toed the rubber.
What else?
- Dickey used his stellar pickoff move to pick Jose Reyes off first base.
- The Mets drew just one walk in the game.
- Dickey threw 114 pitches, 76 of which were strikes. Of the strikes, 20 were of the swinging variety. Excellent.
