For the first time in a very long time, the Mets managed to win a game at Citi Field. Luckily for them, the Marlins are in town for the weekend, and they managed to make the Mets' recent run of horrible baseball look relatively great.
Jon Niese continued his very good season with 6.1 innings of work, most of which were very good. He cruised through the first five but struggled a bit in the sixth and retired the only batter he faced in the seventh. Scott Hairston and Ike Davis each hit a home run in the Mets' seven-run outburst at the plate, and Daniel Murphy had a nice night, too.
We knew it was over when...
The Mets finished the second inning with a five-run lead.
What else?
- Hairston now has 18 home runs in just 351 plate appearances. He's one of the best platoon bats in the game.
- Bobby Parnell and Jon Rauch combined for 2.2 scoreless innings to finish off the game.
